NYG ASABA 2025: TEAM OYO WINS FIRST GOLD MEDAL IN AYO OLOPON (TRADO) Team Oyo has recorded its first gold medal at the ongoing 9th National Youth Games tagged “Asaba 2025”. The duo of Kehinde Nosirat and Makinde Mokinat struck gold in the Ayo Olopon female doubles event, held at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba. Earlier in the day, Kehinde Nosirat had already secured a bronze medal in the female singles category, before teaming up with Makinde Mokinat to deliver Oyo’s breakthrough gold. This marks the state’s maiden top-podium finish at the Games, adding to the medal tally that had earlier seen silver wins in weightlifting. NYG ASABA 2025: OYO’S FATHIA OWOYELE CLAIMS 3 SILVER MEDALS IN WEIGHTLIFTING Oyo State U-15 weightlifting athlete, Fathia Owoyele Toluwalase, has won three silver medals at the ongoing 9th National Youth Games tagged “Asaba 2025”, competing in the 48kg female category. Fathia has established herself as one of Nigeria’s most promising young lifters, having won three gold medals at the 2024 National Youth Games also held in Asaba.  She was later invited to the Gateway Games – Ogun 2024 National Sports Festival as one of the Invited Junior Athletes (IJA), where she narrowly missed out on the podium with a fourth-place finish in the 49kg class. In Asaba 2025, she came up against Edo State’s Esther Amarachi Chijioke, who proved dominant, winning all three gold medals in the snatch, clean & jerk, and total. The  Umuahia Township Stadium , home ground of  Abia Warriors FC , has been declared  unfit  and below acceptable television broadcast standards due to poor maintenance of its playing surface. Following a recent inspection, the stadium was found lacking in several key areas, including: A properly maintained playing surface suitable for top-flight football. Standard floodlighting required for evening fixtures and broadcast quality. Adequate, modern dressing room facilities for players and officials. The  Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL)  has directed Abia Warriors to take  immediate corrective measures  to upgrade the facility. Failure to comply could see the club forced to relocate its home matches to an alternative ground that meets NPFL regulations. Former Super Eagles striker and 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champion,  Brown Ideye , has officially hung up his boots, drawing the curtain on an illustrious career that spanned close to two decades across Europe, Asia, and Africa. Ideye, who last played for  Enyimba International FC , joined the People’s Elephant last season from Al-Yarmouk Sporting Club of Kuwait. He made 10 appearances for the Aba giants, scoring four goals before calling time on his playing journey. The forward’s finest years came during his spell at  Dynamo Kyiv  between 2011 and 2014, where he scored 34 goals in 74 appearances, earning a big-money move to the English Premier League with  West Bromwich Albion  in 2014. The National Sports Commission (NSC) has officially approved Bayelsa State’s bid to host the 2028 edition of the National Sports Festival (NSF). The announcement was made on Tuesday by the NSC Director-General, Chief Bukola Olopade, during a courtesy visit to the Bayelsa State Government House in Yenagoa. Olopade, who led a high-powered delegation, included notable figures such as Chief Solomon Ogba, Vice President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee and former Athletics Federation of Nigeria President; Olympian and former Nigerian long jump record holder, Yusuf Alli; Director of National Sports Festival, Mrs. Oparah Thecla; and Sports Medicine Consultant, Dr. Oyudo Paul. The  Southwest Zonal Elimination  for U-15 ball games, ahead of the upcoming  National Youth Games  in Asaba (August 26 – September 6, 2025), continued on Day 2 at the  Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan . The competition is organized by the  National Sports Commission  and hosted by the  Oyo State Government . The Commonwealth Games medalist expressed her joy after being voted into the role, describing the victory as a deeply meaningful milestone in her career. She dedicated the success to her parents, acknowledging their unwavering support. “Dad, Mum, I show my immense love and thankfulness for your countless affection towards me.
