Southwest Zonal Elimination for National Youth Games – Day 1 Results






The Southwest Zonal Elimination for multiple ball games, in preparation for the upcoming National Youth Games, kicked off today in Ibadan. 



The competition, organized by the National Sports Commission and hosted by the Oyo State Government, is being staged at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, and the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Liberty Road.



Day 1 Results (at Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba):

Football

Male: Team Lagos 1–0 Team Osun; Team Oyo 3–0 Team Ekiti; Team Lagos 3–0 Team Ogun

Female: Team Ekiti 0–7 Team Ogun; Team Oyo 0–4 Team Lagos



Volleyball

Male: Team Oyo 2–0 Team Osun; Team Lagos 2–0 Team Ogun; Team Oyo 2–0 Team Lagos

Female: Team Oyo 1–2 Team Lagos



Abula

Female: Team Ogun 0–2 Team Oyo; Team Lagos 2–0 Team Ogun; Team Oyo 2–0 Team Lagos



Handball

Female: Team Ekiti 10–11 Team Lagos; Team Ondo 18–5 Team Oyo; Team Osun 10–18 Team Ekiti 

Male: Team Oyo 15–16 Team Ogun



The opening day saw brilliant performances across all categories, with states showcasing impressive skills and determination.

NSC confirmed August 26, 2025, as the key date to kick-start the National Youth Games.

*NSC Confirms Key Dates for 2025 National Youth Games* The National Sports Commission (NSC) has confirmed the official schedule for the 2025 National Youth Games, as the nation counts down to the much-anticipated multi-sport event to be hosted by Delta State. According to the Commission, the Games will run from August 26 to September 6, 2025, bringing together the best young talents from across the country to compete for glory and national recognition. Over the past few months, the Main Organizing Committee (MOC) and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) have been actively inspecting and certifying facilities and venues, to ensure they meet the required standards for hosting a successful championship. NPFL Slams Heavy Sanctions on Kano Pillars Over Fan Violence in Matchday 8 Clash

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has imposed a series of severe sanctions on Kano Pillars Football Club following violent incidents during their Matchday 8 fixture against Shooting Stars SC at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, on Sunday, October 12, 2025. In a summary jurisdiction notice dated October 13, 2025, and signed by NPFL Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi, the league found Kano Pillars guilty of multiple breaches of its Framework and Rules relating to crowd control, security, and misconduct. According to the NPFL, the club failed to provide adequate and effective security during the match, allowing unauthorized individuals to gain access to restricted areas and the field of play. The notice also cited the club for failing to control its supporters, who were accused of harassing players, throwing dangerous objects, and assaulting match officials and the visiting team.
