445 ATHLETES AND OFFICIALS FROM OYO WILL PARTICIPATE IN THE 9TH NATIONAL YOUTH GAMES


Three hundred and twenty athletes and one hundred and twenty-five officials from Oyo State will participate in the 9th National Youth Games, tagged “Asaba 2025,” organized by the National Sports Commission, Abuja.


The Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Alhaja Wasilat Adegoke, dropped this hint today in Ibadan.


According to the Commissioner, the multi-sport national competition involving the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, is scheduled to take place from August 26 to September 8, 2025.


She disclosed further that the competition schedule revealed that thirty-eight (38) sports will be competed for at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, and other designated centers within the state.



Alhaja Wasilat Adegoke stated further that: “in compliance with the rules and regulations put in place to ensure that the standard of the game is not compromised. All the under-fifteen athletes will be screened along with their NIN certificates on arrival at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.”


The tournament is organized to bring together the best young talents across the country to compete for glory and national competition, she added.



Addressing the athletes during their training, she admonished them to eschew negative behavior that may tarnish the image of the state, adding that they should intensify their efforts to excel and come back to Oyo State with gold medals.


The “Team Oyo” secured 7th position during the 8th National Youth Games, which was keenly contested among 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, at Asaba in Delta State of Nigeria in the year 2024.
