NYG ASABA 2025: OYO’S FATHIA OWOYELE CLAIMS 3 SILVER MEDALS IN WEIGHTLIFTING

Oyo State U-15 weightlifting athlete, Fathia Owoyele Toluwalase, has won three silver medals at the ongoing 9th National Youth Games tagged “Asaba 2025”, competing in the 48kg female category.

Fathia has established herself as one of Nigeria’s most promising young lifters, having won three gold medals at the 2024 National Youth Games also held in Asaba.

She was later invited to the Gateway Games – Ogun 2024 National Sports Festival as one of the Invited Junior Athletes (IJA), where she narrowly missed out on the podium with a fourth-place finish in the 49kg class.

In Asaba 2025, she came up against Edo State’s Esther Amarachi Chijioke, who proved dominant, winning all three gold medals in the snatch, clean & jerk, and total. Esther had also been outstanding at Ogun 2024, where she competed in the 45kg class and secured two gold and one silver medal for the IJA team.

Fathia’s lifts in the 48kg category:

🥈 Snatch – 62kg

🥈 Clean & Jerk – 81kg

🥈 Total – 143kg

The contest, staged at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Stephen Keshi Stadium, saw Fathia’s consistency deliver Oyo State’s first medals at the ongoing Games.

Congratulations to Fathia Owoyele! 🎉
