Oyo, Nigeria Weightlifter Osijo Mary Elected Athletes’ Representative


Oyo State and Nigerian weightlifter, Osijo Mary, has emerged as the new Athletes’ Representative in the Weightlifting Federation following the national elections held today, August 16, 2025, in Abuja.

The Commonwealth Games medalist expressed her joy after being voted into the role, describing the victory as a deeply meaningful milestone in her career. She dedicated the success to her parents, acknowledging their unwavering support.

“Dad, Mum, I show my immense love and thankfulness for your countless affection towards me. As long as I am with you, I feel enormous positive power. Your encouragement and inspiration made me what I am today,” she said.

Osijo has been one of the country’s standout lifters, winning three gold medals for Oyo State at the 2024 National Sports Festival in Ogun.

Her election marks another achievement in a career defined by resilience, excellence, and gratitude.
