Assumption of National Leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by the Board of Trustees (BoT). It is with the utmost sense of duty and responsibility that the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) assumes leadership of our great party today, Thursday, 30th April, 2026 pursuant to the empowering provisions of the Constitution of the PDP (As amended in 2017). This constitutional intervention of the BoT is so as not to allow any leadership vacuum at the national level of our party following judgment of the Supreme Court. Sadly, the Supreme Court, today delivered an unpleasant judgment against our party in which it pronounced an invalidation of the 15th to 16th November 2025 National Convention of the PDP held in Ibadan, Oyo State, which produced the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee of our Party. While the Supreme Court invalidated the Ibadan Convention, it also in a unanimous decision of the five justices on the panel, upheld the suspens...

Turaki-Led PDP Faction Loses as Supreme Court Voids Ibadan Convention

Image
Turaki-Led PDP Faction Loses as Supreme Court Voids Ibadan Convention The  Supreme Court of Nigeria  has nullified the national convention held by the  Peoples Democratic Party  (PDP) in Ibadan,  Ibadan , on November 15 and 16, 2025. The convention had produced a factional national executive led by  Tanimu Turaki , SAN. The exercise had been mired in controversy and prolonged legal battles prior to the apex court’s ruling. The Ibadan convention was conducted despite subsisting court orders restraining the PDP from proceeding with the gathering. Earlier, a Federal High Court had barred the convention, citing multiple breaches of the party’s constitution and failure to follow due process. The court specifically pointed to unresolved disputes from state congresses and the exclusion of certain aspirants, which it said undermined the credibility of the exercise. Despite the injunction, the convention went ahead, prompting further litigation. The  Court of A...

Peter Obi visits Governor Seyi Makinde in Ibadan

Image
The meeting between  Peter Obi  and  Seyi Makinde  in  Ibadan  is a notable early signal of political repositioning ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 elections—but it’s worth keeping expectations grounded. On the surface, Obi’s framing of the visit as part of broader “consultations” to strengthen democracy aligns with what politicians often do between election cycles: build alliances, test political waters, and reshape narratives after a major contest like the 2023 presidential race. Talk of “saving democracy” and promoting issue-based politics is standard rhetoric, but it also reflects genuine pressure within Nigeria’s political space for reform and more substantive governance debates. Makinde, though a member of a different party (PDP), has built a reputation as a somewhat independent-minded governor. That makes him a potentially valuable ally—or at least a strategic conversation partner—for someone like Obi, who is trying to expand influence beyond the Labour Part...
