IBADAN COMES ALIVE AS OYO HOSTS THRILLING 6TH CYCLING SHOWDOWN

Ibadan witnessed a spectacular display of speed, endurance, and youthful brilliance as the Oyo State Sports Council successfullycollaborated with the Lapet Feats for the annual

Cycling competition organized to develop and nurture talents of the young and vibrant cycling athletes at the

 the Lapet Feats 6th Ibadan Cycling Competition  held on April 18, 2026, along Airport Road, Alakia. Ibadan.


The highly anticipated event kicked off with a ceremonial ride at exactly 9:00 a.m., as disclosed by the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Wasilat Adegoke, setting the stage for an electrifying day of competition. The exhilarated



cyclists from across Nigeria including Lagos, Osun, Abuja, Eruwa, and numerous cycling clubs within Oyo State converged at  Ibadan, turning the city into a hub of sporting excellence and fierce competition.


The event also attracted key dignitaries, including the representative of the Manager of Ladoke Akintola Airport, the Oyo State cycling Secretary,  Alhaja Idiat Aderobigbe  who represented the General Manager of the Oyo State Sports Council at the tournament and other notable figures in the sporting community, which further underscore the importance of the competition.


The unique event also

 showcased exceptional young talents across multiple categories, with thrilling performances and fierce rivalries:

(Under 8 Male) Abdulrazaq Naimeen gold, Bamidele Ereoluwa silver, Akinola Daniel bronze, (Under 8 Female) Realone Firdaous gold Olawale Surprise silver, Olanma Ugbobima bronze, (Under 11 Male) Dada Ayomide gold, Adeyemi Ayobami silver, Realobe Fuad bronze, (Under 11 Female) Yakubu Zamziat gold, Iqmat Odebiyi silver, Abidoye Ayomide bronze, (Under 14 Male)

Goodluck Emmanuel gold, Egbeyemi Peter silver, Fagbiyan Matthew bronze (Under 14 Female) Enemali Goodnews gold,

Moshood Rokeebat silver, Ajani Marvelous bronze (Under 20 Male) Ajibade Ibrahim with gold medal, Martins Samuel with silver and Adewale Fisayo with bronze medal.



In a remarkable twist, all champions from the 5th edition (2025) successfully defended their titles, reaffirming their dominance and raising the bar of excellence in the competition.



The event not only highlighted emerging talents but also reinforced Oyo State’s position as a leading force in grassroots sports development in Nigeria. Hon Wasilat  Adegoke  commended all



 the participating athletes for their determination, discipline, and sportsmanship.

The Commissioner also reiterated the commitment of Oyo State Government for creating more platforms for young athletes to excel and compete at both national and international levels.

FIVE OYO STATE ATHLETES QUALIFY TO REPRESENT NIGERIA AT THE CANADA OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP  By Ayobami Fakorede  The Oyo State Government is proud to announce that five athletes from its Rowing, Canoe, and Sailing team have earned the honour of representing Nigeria at the national level, following their outstanding performance at the just concluded National Canoe Sprint/Kayak Trials. The trials, which form part of the 2026 programme of activities of the National Rowing, Canoe and Sailing Federation, were held at Jabi Lake, Abuja, from March 22 to 23, 2026.
