The Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services nEmployees (AUPCTRE), Oyo State Sports Council Branch, has officially inaugurated its newly elected executive committee, with members charged to uphold the principles of integrity, unity, discipline, and selfless service in the discharge of their responsibilities.

The inauguration ceremony, held at the New Indoor Sports Hall of the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan, marked the successful transition from the immediate past administration led by Comrade Aderibigbe Idiat, whose tenure came to an end after years of dedicated service to the union and its members.

The event attracted the leadership of the union, management of the Oyo State Sports Council, staff members, and other invited guests. Present at the ceremony was the Oyo State Chairman of AUCPTRE, Comrade Yusuf Abiodun, while the General Manager of the Oyo State Sports Council, Mrs. Olubisi Jejelola Adegoke, was represented by the Director of Organisation, Dr. Vivian Ohanele.

Also in attendance were the Director of Administration and Supplies, Mr. Emmanuel Adeniyi, the Internal Auditor, Mr. Adedoyin, deputy directors, senior members of staff, and members of the union, all of whom gathered to witness the inauguration of the new executive officers.

In her opening remarks on behalf of the General Manager, Dr. Vivian Ohanele welcomed everyone to the ceremony and congratulated the newly elected executives on the confidence reposed in them by union members.

She urged the new leadership to remain committed to the ideals of the union by promoting peace, cooperation, accountability, and professionalism in their relationship with both members and the management of the Council.

Dr. Ohanele further advised the executives not to use their positions to create unnecessary conflicts or confrontations with the government or management but rather to serve as responsible representatives who will always seek dialogue, understanding, and constructive engagement in addressing issues affecting workers.

She stressed that effective leadership is built on humility, sacrifice, and a genuine commitment to serving others.

Addressing the gathering, the AUPCTRE Oyo State Chairman, Comrade Yusuf Abiodun, congratulated the newly elected officers and reminded them that leadership is a call to service and not an avenue for personal gain.

He described the executive members as the "eyes and voice of the union," emphasizing that their responsibility is to protect the interests of members while working harmoniously with management for the overall progress of the Council.

According to him, constructive advice from the union is always welcome and plays an important role in improving the welfare of workers and strengthening industrial harmony.

He, however, cautioned the executives against expecting praise at all times, noting that true leaders are judged by their commitment, fairness, transparency, and willingness to make difficult decisions in the interest of those they represent.

Comrade Yusuf also advised the executives not to misuse the privilege of their offices or hide under the umbrella of the union to intimidate or threaten the management. Instead, he encouraged them to embrace dialogue, mutual respect, and collaboration as the best approach to resolving issues and advancing the objectives of the union.
