OBIDEYI OPENS UP ON EIPFA VISION, SCHOOL OF SPORTS AND MAY 31 SHOWDOWN

Chairman of the Ex Ibadan Professional Footballers Association, Mr. Temitope Ademola Obideyi, has spoken extensively for the first time following the successful conclusion of the Oyo State EIPFA Statewide Secondary Schools Championship and ahead of the much-anticipated football showdown between Ex-Ibadan Professionals and Ex-Super Eagles on May 31.


Obideyi, a former Nigerian international and recent recipient of the prestigious Pillar of Sports award, used the opportunity to express deep appreciation to EIPFA members, the Oyo State Football Association, football coaches, and stakeholders whose support contributed to the success of the project. He disclosed that 30 talented secondary school students have already been selected for the next stage of development, while arrangements are being finalized with schools in Ibadan to ensure they continue their education alongside the pursuit of their football dreams.


Reflecting on the mission behind EIPFA, Obideyi explained that the association is not solely focused on producing footballers, but on building complete individuals through a combination of sports and education. According to him, the initiative seeks to create opportunities for young players to excel both academically and athletically while providing an alternative path for those who may not progress professionally in football. He emphasized that the long-term goal is to contribute toward reducing unemployment, poverty, and illiteracy through structured youth development.


The former player, who had playing stints in Peru, further revealed that major progress has been made toward the launch of the EIPFA School of Sports. He noted that the proposed facility is envisioned as a comprehensive sports hub equipped with football pitches, volleyball and tennis courts, swimming facilities, gym centers, medical clinics, and several other modern sporting infrastructures designed to nurture future champions.


Obideyi also announced that EIPFA has successfully secured partnership and sponsorship agreements with two leading universities in Oyo State, with another institution expected to join soon. Through these collaborations, he disclosed that talented students will have opportunities to benefit from scholarship programs both within Nigeria and abroad.


Looking ahead to the upcoming football fiesta, Obideyi passionately called on football lovers across Oyo State and beyond to come out in large numbers and witness a reunion of football legends whose brilliance once lit up stadiums and brought joy to millions. He described the May 31 encounter at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, as more than a football match, but a celebration of legacy, dreams, and the future of sports development.
