Championship Kicks Off




The 2026 Ibadan Basketball Championship tipped off today, February 6, 2026, at the Basketball Court of the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan.



This fifth edition of the Ibadan Basketball Championship is sponsored by Ibadan Ex-Basketball Players in Diaspora, demonstrating their continued commitment to the growth and development of basketball in Oyo State.




A total of six male teams and two female teams are participating in the competition.

(Male Teams) - University of Ibadan, The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Rising Stars (Male Team), Ollysan, Embrace, and Yellow Tiger.

(Female Teams) - Rising Stars (Female Team), and Showtime Angels.



The two-day competition, which commenced in Ibadan today, is aimed at promoting basketball, discovering and developing young talents, and nurturing them for the future greatness of Nigeria.




The winner of the championship will go home with a cash prize of ₦300,000, while the second-place team will receive ₦200,000. The same prize structure applies to the female category.

NSC Constitutes Organizing Team for 2027 Africa School Games

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has announced a 21-man Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the Africa School Games, slated to hold in Abuja, Nigeria, in 2027. Nigeria was unanimously announced as the host of the 2027 edition of the Games during an extraordinary session of the ANOCA Executive Committee held on the sidelines. The NSC has been proactive in putting together a world class event, which prompted its leadership to announce the LOC.
