HON. GBENGA ADEWUSI (AROLE) IS QUALIFIED TO CONTEST FOR THE POST OF HANDBALL SOUTHWEST ZONAL REPRESENTATIVE. STOP SPREADING FAKE RUMORS.
WHO SAYS HON. GBENGA ADEWUSI (AROLE) IS NOT QUALIFIED?
It is important to set the record straight about the pedigree and contributions of Hon. Gbenga Adewusi, fondly known as Arole, to handball and sports development in Oyo State and the Southwest at large.
Hon. Adewusi’s journey in handball began in 1985 as a player, before pursuing academic excellence in Physical and Health Education. He obtained a Diploma from the University of Lagos and later earned a B.Ed from the University of Ibadan in the same discipline.
Beyond academics, he has served diligently in politics and sports administration:
Twice elected Local Government Chairman.
Former Oyo State Handball Chairman, before handing over to Prof. Fadoju.
Bonafide and financial member of Ogun State Handball Veterans.
First Chairman of Oyo/Osun Veterans.
Former Chairman of Oyo Handball Veterans.
As the immediate past Chairman of the Oyo State Sports Council, Hon. Adewusi left an indelible mark:
Oyo State finished 6th at Edo 2020 National Sports Festival.
Improved to 4th position at Asaba 2022.
His motivation inspired Oyo’s handball team to win Gold in Asaba 2022.
His influence ensured Oyo competed at the Gateway Games, Ogun 2024, despite finishing second at the zonal qualifiers — an uncommon achievement.
Hon. Adewusi has also invested personally in handball’s growth:
In 2022, he hosted the Southwest Handball Competition at Ilaji Hotel & Sports Resort, with all six states participating.
In May 2021, he sponsored a veterans’ tournament between Ogun, Osun, and Oyo to celebrate his birthday and promote unity.
With this track record, there can be no doubt about his qualification and suitability to serve as the Southwest Zonal Representative of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN).
Those who attempt to discredit him should remember that many have benefited directly or indirectly from his generosity, leadership, and dedication. Instead of casting aspersions, the focus should be on supporting a man who has consistently given his all to handball and sports in general.
We are confident that Hon. Gbenga Adewusi (Arole) will continue to use his passion, experience, and proven leadership to strengthen handball in the Southwest and Nigeria at large. His contributions will not be forgotten.
