NPFL Slaps ₦1m Fine on Clubs for Skipping Post-Match Press Conferences

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has announced that any club whose head coach fails to attend the mandatory post-match press conference in the 2025/26 season will face a ₦1 million fine.

Chief Operating Officer Davison Owumi made the declaration in Lafia during the NPFL preseason seminar for media officers, supporters’ club chairmen, and chief security officers.

Owumi stressed that only head coaches—not assistants—will be allowed to handle post-match media duties, in line with global best practices.

“Have you ever seen Pep Guardiola send his assistant to stand in for him after a game? From now on, post-match press conferences are strictly for the head coach,” Owumi stated.

NPFL Director of Communications Harry Iwuala also urged media officers to be more innovative in promoting their clubs, noting that creative publicity can significantly boost the league’s visibility.

He further revealed that the new season will feature pre-match interviews for both home and away teams, offering fans deeper insight into players and clubs.
