OBIDEYI MOURNS OLOYE LEKAN ALABI, DESCRIBES HIS DEATH AS A MONUMENTAL LOSS TO OYO STATE AND NIGERIA

Founder and Chairman of the Pillar of Sports Youth Development Foundation and Oyo State Pillar of Sports, Mr. Temitope Ademola Obideyi, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of renowned journalist, elder statesman, and senior chief in the Olubadan-in-Council, Oloye Lekan Alabi.

Oloye Lekan Alabi passed away on Saturday in Lagos at the age of 76, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of excellence, integrity, and selfless service in journalism, public communication, culture, and traditional leadership.

Until his death, the late Oloye Alabi held the prestigious title of Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland. He was one of Oyo State’s most respected media personalities, having served as Press Secretary to successive military and civilian governors while dedicating his life to preserving the rich history and cultural heritage of Ibadanland.

Reacting to the sad news, Obideyi described Baba Lekan Alabi’s death as a rude shock and a painful loss to Oyo State, Nigeria, and the media industry.

“The news of Baba Lekan Alabi’s passing came to me with profound sadness. Oyo State has lost one of its finest sons, Nigeria has lost a distinguished media icon, and Ibadanland has lost a highly respected traditional leader and custodian of our history. His contributions to journalism, public service, and the preservation of our heritage will never be forgotten.

“Baba Lekan Alabi was a father figure, a man of wisdom, humility, and integrity whose voice and counsel inspired generations. His absence will be deeply felt across the media industry and beyond. His legacy will continue to speak for him.”

Obideyi prayed that Almighty God grants the late elder eternal rest and gives his family the strength to bear the painful loss.

He also extended his heartfelt condolences to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, the Olubadan-in-Council, the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), the government and people of Oyo State, the media community, and all sons and daughters of Ibadanland, praying that God comforts them during this difficult period.

“May Almighty God forgive his shortcomings, grant him Aljanah Firdaus, comfort everyone he left behind, and give us all the strength to preserve the enduring legacy he left for humanity.”
