The 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season is set for a dramatic conclusion on May 24, 2026, with major decisions still hanging in the balance. From the title race to the fight for continental qualification and the intense relegation battle, the final matchday promises excitement, tension, and high stakes across all centers.

At the top of the table, the title race remains a two-team affair between Enugu Rangers, who currently lead with 65 points, and Rivers United, closely behind with 64 points. Enugu Rangers will travel to face Ikorodu City FC in what is expected to be a difficult encounter, as Ikorodu City are also pushing for a continental ticket. For Rangers, the equation is simple  a win secures the NPFL title. However, any slip could prove costly. Rivers United, on the other hand, will host Katsina United and must secure all three points while hoping Rangers drop points to stand a chance of being crowned champions.

The race for the final continental ticket is equally fierce. Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), currently occupying third position, will be away to Niger Tornadoes in a must-win encounter. The Oluyole Warriors need maximum points to strengthen their chances, but their qualification hopes also depend on other results, particularly the outcome of the Rangers vs Ikorodu City clash. A positive result for Rangers could ease the pressure on 3SC, but any other outcome could complicate their chances of finishing in the top three.

At the bottom of the table, the relegation battle is wide open and unpredictable. While Bayelsa United and Wikki Tourists have already been relegated after finishing 19th and 20th respectively, the fight to avoid the remaining drop spots remains intense. Teams placed between 11th and 18th are still not safe, making the final day a survival battle for many.

Defending champions Remo Stars find themselves in a surprising and dangerous position, sitting 15th with 46 points. They face a crucial away fixture against Bendel Insurance at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium. A defeat could see them relegated, depending on other results. If Warri Wolves, who are also on 46 points, secure a home victory against Abia Warriors, and Niger Tornadoes manage to defeat Shooting Stars, Remo Stars could suffer a shocking drop just one season after winning the title.

With so much at stake across the league, the final matchday promises to deliver intense drama, emotional moments, and decisive outcomes. From title glory to continental dreams and relegation heartbreak, every match will matter as the NPFL 2025/26 season reaches its thrilling conclusion ⚽🔥
